چکیده

Most aircraft fleets nowadays are operating under the concept of damage tolerance, which requires an aircraft to have sufficient residual strength in the presence of damage in one of its principal structural elements (PSE) during the interval of service inspections. The residual strength however is significantly reduced due to multi site damage (MSD). In the present paper, a probabilistic framework for the calculation of the failure probability is set up. The MSD problem of a PSE is considered, where crack initiation and crack growth as well as yield stress and fracture toughness are described by random variables. The crack growth calculations are carried out by means of the finite element alternating method (Park and Atluri 1998), which avoids a remeshing of the finite element problem. After specifying link up and failure criteria, importance sampling is employed to obtain the probability of failure of the PSE due to MSD.

Analysis and design of structural systems always requires the treatment of uncertainties by using statistical and probabilistic concepts so this can be done in a rational way. It is shown that traditional, deterministic concepts can be easily extended to account for uncertainties. The so-called Monte Carlo Simulation procedures are the key for these developments. By this method, deterministic m...

Chair of Engineering Mechanics Ifm-publication 2-434 Efficient Monte Carlo Simulation Procedures in Structural Uncertainty and Reliability Analysis -recent Advances

The present contribution addresses uncertainty quantification and uncertainty propagation in structural mechanics using stochastic analysis. Presently available procedures to describe uncertainties in load and resistance within a suitable mathematical framework are shortly addressed. Monte Carlo methods are proposed for studying the variability in the structural properties and for their propaga...

The inherent uncertainties in geometry, material properties, etc. of engineering structures can be represented by stochastic models, where the parameters are described by probabilistic laws. Results from any analysis based on stochastic models inherit probabilistic information as well, which can be used e.g. for reliability analysis. Particularly in linear dynamics of structures the calculation...

Performance Analysis Of Mono-bit Digital Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (Difm) Device

Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) devices are the essential parts of anyESM, ELINT, and RWR receiver. Analog IFMs have been used for several decades. However, thesedevices are bulky, complex and expensive. Nowadays, there is a great interest in developing a wideband, high dynamic range, and accurate Digital IFMs. One Digital IFM that has suitably reached allthese requirements is mono-bi...
